Welcome to The Ubunye Educare Centre

At Ubunye Educare we believe that early preparation and a hunger for education is a key to change in impoverished communities. The school is a non-fee paying school and therefore relies on the generosity of donors who support our vision.

Have fun learning

Our approach to learning and teaching is through child centered play and education. We enable the children to learn while engaging with each other and enhancing both their gross and fine motor skills. With a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, imaginative play and physical activities, our staff will engage with your children.

Feeding Initiative

No child can focus on education with an empty tummy which is extremely prevalent in Dunoon. Ubunye provides healthy meals for each child in the school and intends to continue doing so. It takes a community to raise a child and Ubunye needs generous sponsorship to assist in this endeavour to grow and be more effective.

Why Ubunye Educare?

All children deserve a good education. At Ubunye, children aged 5 to 6 years old are taught to be focused, love learning and be well prepared for grade 1.

This is achieved by ensuring that motor skills, hand eye co-ordination and other skill are enhanced.

Classroom Facilities

We have four classrooms teaching Language, Mathematics and Life Skills. Our classrooms are optimized to ensure that the children are in a cheerful environment where they can concentrate, communicate and learn.

Our main focus is to make education an outing. The children have fun while learning. It builds their social skills and helps the children cope with everyday stress and builds cognitive skills like problem solving.

Indoor and Outdoor Play Areas

Our indoor play area has multi purposes uses, it serves as a games room focused on enhancing the children’s fine motor skills, for drama classes, for sing a longs and also as a Auditorium for plays, educational visits and talks.

The outdoor playground is designed to optimize the learners gross motor skills. There are jungle gyms, slides, climbing ropes and swings, all to help the children learn to balance, play and interact socially.

Outings and Educational Visits

We encourage educational outings and visits by various Emergency Services, Drama and Acting Organizations, Music Schools and Motivational Speakers.

Outings are a way to show the children new and exciting surroundings. They are taught responsibility, respect and appreciation.

At Ubunye we encourage the learners to engage and interact with each other on the playground and in the classroom. We achieve this by giving them the opportunity to share their stories and to make them feel comfortable amongst their peers.

The learners build a strong bond and encourage each other to grow, learn and achieve. Building their futures together.

Ubunye prides itself with ensuring staff and children are safe at the Centre. Warren Rainers (a volunteer) looks after the security and maintenance, and is lovingly known as Uncle Warren by the children.

Often parents are worried about their little one going to preschool! Take heart, the majority of children are well prepared to begin “school” and at Ubunye Educare Centre, the children quickly adapt and settle down. We pride ourselves that our children are happy at Ubunye!

At Ubunye, we follow a set curriculum set out by the Education Department, and focus on literacy, mathematics and life skills. Ubunye has celebrated eight years of igniting change, and many thanks have to go to our educators, who have earned the love and respect from the learners.
